課程概述

This graduate course aims to teach the fundamentals of biological mass spectrometry with particular focus on applications to advanced analysis of protein modifications. The course will begin with an introduction to the general aspects of mass spectrometry and proteomic analysis, to give sufficient background knowledge on current advances in topics such as protein identification and quantitative shotgun proteomics. This will then be followed by in depth coverage on the practical aspects of MS analysis of selected protein modifications, each of which will be preceded by an invited lecture on the biological significance and supplemented by paper discussion.
Tentative course content includes :
1) Fundamentals of Biological MS and Proteomics (3 lectures)
2) Phosphorylation (3 lectures)
3) Cysteine modification : Chemical S-Alkylation, Oxidation and S-Nitrosylation (3 lectures)
4) Ubiquitination and Sumoylation Neddylation (2 lectures)
5) Methylation, Acetylation and other Amino-modifications (2 lectures)
6) Glycosylation (3 lectures)

課程要求
Opens only to Master and PhD Students who have already taken the Chemical and Structural Biology I (化學與結構生物學上) course offered by IBS. This requirement can be exempted if the graduate students already have practical research experience on mass spectrometry analysis of proteins and proteomics. PhD students who have taken similar course offered by other graduate schools, with strong emphasis on protein chemistry can also be considered.
